About

This is my father’s family history, the Moores of Montague, Prince Edward Island, originally George Moors from Portsea, Hampshire, England, and the Morrisons from the Isle of Harris, Scotland to Wreck Cove on the coast of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

Recording history and hoping to meet more of the living who share the Moore lineage.

Hello there cousin! Alexander Morrison and Sarah Matheson were also my gggrandparents.

I have some information on the genealogy of the family if you are interested. I was born in Nova Scotia, grew up in Toronto and am now living in Australia (a very long way away from my ‘heart home’ of Cape Breton.) According to the info. on the 1901 Census, Alexander (b. Aug.10, 1825) emigrated with his family in 1827 and Sarah (b.28 Mar. 1828) in 1829. You may now be able to find the records of their arrival. I haven’t gotten that far. I am descended from their son Angus L. Morrison and his wife Catherine MacLeod. Their daughter Sarah is my grandmother. She was born and raised at Wreck Cove and I often visited my great-uncles there in the summers on the farm beside Morrison’s Brook.

Looking forward to connecting with you. Have a lovely day.

    • Hello, Deborah, so nice to meet you from so far away! I’m so glad you stopped by and shared your information. I will respond by email, once I’ve compared it with mine. You are the first Morrison cousin I have met — so exciting! Thank you so much.

    • My grandmother Annie MacLeod (nee MacDermid) her mother Annie Morrison is the sister of Angus L Morrison whose parents were Alexander Morrison and Sarah Matheson…We spent all our summers in Wreck Cove and nearby Ingonish. We later had a trailer near Dan Murdoch’s place across from the old house in Wreck Cove..I knew Little Donald ,Dan Murdoch,Jessie, Maisie and Sadie Morrison.

      • Another cousin. Thanks for your comment. I envy you those summers on Cape Breton.

Just checking in …The Pioneer cemetery in Wreck Cove have Alexander and Sarah Matheson’s graves(my gggrandparents). .. Dan Murdoch and Little Donald took care of it for many years. . The oldest grave is Peter Morrison born 1794 and his wife Annie. I’m curious as to how or if they’re related to Alexander. I’d be interested in any progress made in the family trees by any of the above Morrisons. Joyce I lost you’re email so maybe you can get in touch as well

      • I have not worked on this in awhile because I was at a dead end. When I visited the Morrison cemetery with Aunt Katherine she told me many of them were not ours, though they had the same names. Scottish naming makes for confusion! I’ll shoot you an email. Glad to hear from you.

      • We’re related!! They’re my grandfathers siblings 😊

My sister Rose Morrison, my cousin Lena Morrison, and myself (Missy Morrison- Christie) are working on a family tree on Ancestry.com
Our Grandfather is Alexander Morrison(Sandy Hook)- brother to DanMurdoch, Donald, Maisie, Jessie, Sadie etc
Lena happened upon an old- somewhat hidden Cemetary in Wreck Cove which is primarily Morrison-
We have added photos of the gravestones in hopes of connecting dots- and dates!

      • I visited a cemetery in Wreck Cove with my grandmother’s sister, Katherine, in the 1990s. It was quite confusing with so many of the same names! I’d be interested in seeing your work. You can contact me privately on the Contact page and I will email you back.

      • I remember the trailer. My grandmother Tina the sister you may not remember had the little cabin in between the farm and the trailer. We spent many summers there and I miss them. I treasure the memories

      • And Tina! She lived in America but was in her cottage every summer.

    • Great summer this year in Cape Breton. My grandmother was everyone’s aunt on the North Shore and she held court every time she went down to Wreck Cove. They easily slipped in to speaking Gaelic especially when they didn’t want the younger folk to hear exactly what they were saying. She lost both parents the year she was born (1899) but lived a full life to the age of 90. It is somewhat ironic that Deborah Mobberley mentioned Angus L for he was the one that was there when her mother took ill and died. Regards Ken

    • Hello Deborah, my grandmother was Tina Morrison. Your grandmother Sarah’s sister. Although we called her aunt Sadie! I’d love to connect and hear more

  2. I recently uploaded photos of the Wreck Cove cemetery. Took them while on vacation in Cape Breton.
I discovered your blog when I googled to see if any family genealogists were posting/researching the family there. You might be interested in taking a look. Best, Sheila

    • Thank you, I’ll check them out.

      • Hi! I am Tina’s grand daughter. She is another sister to Dan Murdoch, Uncle Donald, Sadie, Sandy, Maisie and Jessie. She had the little cabin to the left of the farm house. We spent many wonderful summers there. Thought I’d introduce myself.
