The Morrisons came from Scotland, the Isles of Lewis and Harris, to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, settling in Wreck Cove. Alexander Morrison came with his parents John and ?Rachel in 1834. The last Morrison to live in Wreck Cove in the family home was Donald who died 8May1995. I don’t believe there are any Morrisons as all the grandchildren were girls or children of daughters. Donald had a daughter, John had no children, and Alex had no grandchildren.
Both of my grandmother’s parents were Morrisons.

I am also of the Morrison clan from Cape Breton…. Glace Bay to be exact. We also came from Lewis, from our stronghold at Dun Eistean. We do still exist, and my father Harry John Morrison, son of Angus, is our last known male descendant. The Morrison line for us ends with me, as my last name will be changed upon marriage, I am desperately trying to find exact dates and locations.
My grandfather, Angus b. July 19 1929 d. Feb15 2008 had severe dimesia, and was only able to remember 2 of his MANY siblings…. George and Mabel. I found out on my pilgrimage out there, that my great uncle George passed away only a couple years before I made it out there. I am not sure if there are any remaining of us…. My father mentioned a cousin Victor in Trenton, On…. But I haven’t been able to find anything on him.

So glad to ‘meet’ you, Amber! I will keep an eye out for the names and dates you have, and let you know of any leads. It certainly can be a frustrating search, but also rewarding when least expected. Thanks for sharing your info here, and best wishes in your quest!

This is the other lineage of Morrison’s, so I don’t think we’d be related…. But over here anyways. Ultimately, or clan was small, so technically we are all related, but that goes back to when we were still in the Scottish highlands.

Hello! cousin.. I’m not sure if my Grandfather John Morrison belongs to your family. My dilemma is I new almost nothing about him. He and his brother?? do not know his name either were from Antigonish? sorry If miss spelt. It is around Cape Breton I believe. His mother and father lived near there. The only names I can think of are Rachel or Sara or Sarah. The mother died and the boys were left with a Aunt.
The story goes the boys led horses out of mine. They were about 6-8. I know my grandfather spoke perfect Gaelic. We would all laugh when he would (swear) in Gaelic, because no one had any idea what he was saying. He did serve in WW1.
By then he had married overseas in England. His wife Margaret and 1` son came to Canada after he was back. It sounds like the came to Willow River..near Prince George BC. and then raised the second child. His father was thought to have gone to the USA. The boys would have been born in 1880’s .
Whew! I didn’t intend on going this deep. I guess my biggest questions for you would be :
Could you point me in the right direction of a Genealogist for the Antigonish area? There must have been mines there at some point.
Thank you for your time.

I thank you for your comment, Betsy, and regret to say that I do not know of a Genealogist in the Antigonish area. Isn’t Sydney Mines in that area? I will say that you have a good bit of history to go on, and I wish you well. It’s all so interesting, isn’t it? And confusing, with the names being repeated so often! Very nice to meet you. Don’t hesitate to come back if you just want to bounce things off me.
You’re quite welcome.

John was my great grandfather, and his son Angus was my grandfather. It’s a very confusing lineage out there due to no recorded archives.
I know that John had about seven or eight children, and George wad definitely one of them, but he passed away in glace bay, that’s where most of the boys coal mined from an early age.
Angus fought in the Korean war, but developed severe Alzheimer’s, so it was difficult to get much family info prior to his passing.
I, myself have become terminally ill, so I haven’t done any research in years. I know that we have landed that we have inherited, 200 acres spilt between the eight children, equaling approx. 25 acres per descendants family, it’s on trout lake road I believe, it’s still in johns name after all these years.
I hope this helps a bit.

Thank you, Amber. I’m sorry to hear of your illness. I have not worked on this line because it is so confusing. I have the line on this side of the ocean, but can’t connect to Scotland because of the confusion in names.
Your comment is good to have. Every bit of info helps others who are looking, and people do stop in from time to time. Thanks so much, and God bless you.

Hi, I’m not sure if anyone is still following this thread but I’m just wondering if anyone has information on Ronald Morrison? He was married to Violet Burke and they had a daughter Lorna Marcella Morrison who was born in New Waterford – Cape Breton. I believe they also had another daughter Marie Muriel Morrison and sons Adrian, Ronald, Malcolm, Arnold, and Art.
Any info is appreciated. My father was given up for adoption by Lorna Morrison and I’m trying to discover more about my biological family.

I am Donald’s grand daughter and my mother was an only child. He was indeed the last child to live in the family home and did pass in May of 1995.

Welcome, Nancy. I so enjoyed my visit with your grandparents and Aunt Katherine years ago. Their memories of the old days were helpful, though they rarely agreed on the details!
